Margaret Baldwin‘s acclaimed 2010 play „Night Blooms“ is about two families caught up in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement in Selma, Alabama. Ms. Baldwin digs deep into the rich, messy, and complicated lives of an Alabama family in the mid-1960s, when matriarch Lucille Stafford decides to have a cocktail party to witness the rare flowering of her night-blooming cereus plant. To fry the chicken and make the potato salad, she calls in her black maid, Geneva Willis - while the rest of the nation’s attention is focused on the March on Selma, which became known as one the bloodiest incidents during the Civil Rights Movement.

2015 feiert Amerika den 50. Jahrestag des Marsches von Selma, Alabama, eines der tragischsten Ereignisse in der amerikanischen Bürgerrechtsbewegung. Aus diesem Anlass gestalten Lehramtsstudierende, Dozenten und Gäste aus Kennesaw das Theaterstück Night Blooms von Margaret Baldwin als „staged reading“ (gelesene Vorstellung). Meet the author: Die Autorin wird selber dort sein und nach der Aufführung für Fragen zur Verfügung stehen.
