Composition of the working group

Involving stakeholders in the further development of sustainability at Paderborn University presented one of the greatest challenges, but at the same time also one of the greatest opportunities. Active participation took place via representatives of the university’s relevant internal stakeholder groups, who work together in the Sustainability Working Group (Sustainability WG).

At the start of the strategy process, the faculties, the student body (represented by student representatives) and the administration were specifically involved in the formation of the Sustainability Working Group. As the process progressed – particularly following the completion of the first phase of the materiality analysis – further administrative units were gradually integrated into the development process to ensure a comprehensive perspective on the operational, organisational and personnel aspects of sustainable development at Paderborn University.

The faculties were asked to each appoint two representatives to bring the specific perspectives of research and teaching to the working group. Student representatives were involved via the General Student Committee (AStA) and the student initiative oikos.
In addition, initiatives from the mid-level academic staff and the Centre for Teaching and Learning were actively integrated into the process in order to incorporate the diverse roles, responsibilities and areas of expertise within the university.

Organisational responsibility lies with the Sustainability Office, staffed by Friederike Häusler, Sustainability Assistant, and Matthias Gierth, head of unit for Sustainable Infrastructure.
