Social media netiquette

Our central social media channels on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube thrive on the participation of our community. We attach great importance to good cooperation.

The following rules form the basis of our communication:

  • The tone on our channels is friendly and respectful.
  • We respect the diversity of all people. Discriminatory or derogatory statements based on ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability or appearance are not tolerated on our channels.
  • We welcome constructive criticism. Insults, verbal abuse or deliberate provocation that disrupt the objective discussion climate may be removed.
  • Posts that violate applicable law, human dignity or the platform rules - for example in the form of criminal insults, incitement to hatred, discrimination, racism, pornography or anti-constitutional content - will be removed.
  • Commercial advertising, mass-posted content (spam) and violations of third-party rights may be removed.
  • Proven false information ("fake news") or unsubstantiated factual claims that are likely to deceive the public or cause harm may be removed.
  • Comments should always have a direct link to the topic of a post. Off-topic comments are undesirable.
  • We pay attention to data protection: confidential content such as addresses, telephone numbers or student numbers are not published on our channels at any time.
  • As the social media team, we are employees of the university and provide information on questions to the best of our knowledge and belief - however, this is not legally binding.
  • Copyright and personal rights must be observed when publishing images, videos and texts. Third-party content must be correctly labelled - this also applies to AI-generated images.

Paderborn University's social media team moderates the channels to the best of its knowledge and checks content within the framework of netiquette and legal requirements. Comments or content that violate these rules or applicable law may be deleted after a case-by-case review. In the event of repeated or serious violations of these rules, we reserve the right to block users. Criminally relevant content will be documented and forwarded to the authorities. The terms of use and community standards of the respective platforms also apply.

If you have any questions or need to talk, the editorial team can be contacted by email at socialmedia@zv.uni-paderborn.de or by direct message on the respective platforms. We look forward to a good and enriching exchange!
