Living in Student Accommodation

Each semester, the Student Services Paderborn (German: Studierendenwerk Paderborn, short: STW) reserves a limited number of rooms in its halls of residence for exchange students. These students are usually accommodated in single-sex shared apartments for two or four people, mostly in the smaller buildings on Vogeliusweg near the campus.

The monthly rent, including utilities, ranges from EUR 370 to 400. In addition, there is a one-time payment of EUR 400 for the deposit, which includes a final fee of EUR 110. Prices are subject to change.

Each resident has their own room, which is furnished with a bed with mattress, a wardrobe, a desk, and a chair. The kitchen and bathroom are shared with the other students. Bedding, towels, and kitchen utensils such as pots, dishes, etc., must be purchased or brought by the tenant.

There is a nearby shopping center within walking distance, but you can also order items online and have them delivered to your flat. At the start of the semester, the Eurobiz team also sets a date when new students can pick up items left behind by previous tenants free of charge.

Please note: Dorm rooms are generally rented only for full months. When determining your rental period, you should consider some time for settling in and bare in mind that exams may sometimes fall outside the semester.

Own apartment or room in a private shared a apartment (WG)

Living here offers the opportunity to live in closer contact with Germans, including non-students. If you would like to move into your own apartment or live in a shared apartment with locals, you will have to find accommodation yourself.

In Germany, many students live in shared flats.

Each resident has their own room, while the bathroom and kitchen are shared. In addition to the rent, a deposit of approximately one to two months' rent must usually be paid in advance. This will be refunded when you move out, provided that no damage has been caused to the room during the rental period.

Rental prices depend on the size of the room, the location, and how many other students share the apartment. They range from approximately €400 to €500 (subject to change) per month.

Please note: As accommodation in university towns is generally limited, it is advisable to start looking early. To register with the Paderborn Residents' Registration Office, you will need a Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung (landlord's certificate) from your landlord or the main tenant of the shared apartment.
