Living in Student Accommodation
Each semester, the Student Services (Studierendenwerk Paderborn, short: STW) reserves a limited number of rooms in its halls of residence for exchange students. Students are accommodated in same-sex shared apartments for two or four people in the smaller buildings on Vogeliusweg near the campus.
Each roommate has their own room (with a bed, closet, desk, and chair) and shares the kitchen, bathroom, and common room with one or three other students.
The monthly rent is €370-400 (prices are subject to change). There is also a one-time payment of €400 (deposit for the room in a shared apartment – the final cleaning fee of €110 is already included).
Please note: Rooms can only be rented for full months. When determining the rental period, please take into account that some time for settling in should be planned and that exams may take place outside the semester.
Application Process
If you are interested in this offer from the Studierendenwerk Paderborn, please indicate this in your online application in the Mobility Online Portal under “Accommodation.” It is not possible to apply directly to the STW. The International Office will send you the access link for your online application after we have received and accepted your nomination, which must be made by your home university.
The university will forward your data to the Student Services at a later date for room allocation. If rooms are available, you will receive an offer from the STW Housing Administration in due course. You will be asked to accept the offer by email. Any changes to the length of stay can be discussed with the STW before accepting the offer. Once the offer has been accepted by the student, it is not possible to change the dates of the rental period.
Please note: The International Office is not involved in the allocation process.

Own apartment or room in a private shared a apartment (WG)
Living here offers the opportunity to live in closer contact with Germans, including non-students. If you would like to move into your own apartment or live in a shared apartment with locals, you will have to find accommodation yourself.
In Germany, many students live in shared flats.
Each resident has their own room, while the bathroom and kitchen are shared. In addition to the rent, a deposit of approximately one to two months' rent must usually be paid in advance. This will be refunded when you move out, provided that no damage has been caused to the room during the rental period.
Rental prices depend on the size of the room, the location, and how many other students share the apartment. They range from approximately €400 to €500 (subject to change) per month.
Please note: As accommodation in university towns is generally limited, it is advisable to start looking early. To register with the Paderborn Residents' Registration Office, you will need a Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung (landlord's certificate) from your landlord or the main tenant of the shared apartment.
