Registration is open until 22 June
From 7 to 9 July, a series of events at garage33, the Paderborn University start-up centre, will explore various aspects of the food chain from a sustainability perspective. The focus will be on organic food production, reducing food waste and making healthy consumption choices. Alongside an engaging panel discussion and presentations as part of a so-called CoLab, hackathon workshops will be on offer. There will also be an excursion to the ‘Tomorrow Eats Festival’ in Lemgo. The events are taking place at Paderborn University as part of the COLOURS Alliance; the language of the events is English. Registrations can be made by 22 June by emailing cospace.colours@uni-paderborn.de.
CoLab, Hackathon and Excursion
The CoLab examines food production in the context of the green transition. The focus is on organic food production, the prevention of food waste and health-conscious consumption. The aim of the CoLab is to develop solutions (ideas, forms of participation, opportunities, scenarios or business models) that increase acceptance of initiatives such as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) as well as regional and seasonal food offerings, e.g. in direct marketing or retail, and enable measures against food waste. In addition, consumers are to be motivated to take active steps and change their behaviour – with the long-term aim of founding start-ups in this field.
The hackathon, which takes place in collaboration with students, links the themes of food production and the green transition whilst also taking social aspects into account. It addresses topics such as health and well-being, responsible consumption and production, and climate protection measures. Through brainstorming, prototyping and pitches, solutions are developed for the challenges faced by initiatives in this field.
The excursion to the “Tomorrow Eats Festival” on the innovation campus of TH OWL (Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences) in Lemgo (via shuttle bus) explores the question: “Which food trends and innovations will shape the food industry and our everyday lives in the future?”
CoLabs at Paderborn University
Within the framework of the CoLabs, current societal challenges are addressed in collaboration between researchers from the COLOURS partner universities and stakeholders from the participating European regions. The aim is to bring together people from research and education, business and industry, public administration, politics and civil society, thereby incorporating a wide range of perspectives. The Alliance has identified the areas of health and well-being, food production, the green transition, and IT and digitalisation as overarching themes. Viable solutions to these current issues will be developed collaboratively during the individual CoLab events. The CoLabs take place twice a year at Paderborn University and are open to anyone in the region who is interested.
COLOURS Alliance at UPB
In addition to Paderborn University, the ‘COLOURS’ Alliance comprises the Le Mans University (France), the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain), the University of Ferrara (Italy), Kristianstad University (Sweden), Jan Dlugosz University (Poland), Josip Jurai Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia), St Kliment Ohridski University of Bitola (North Macedonia) and Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (Latvia). Together, they aim to strengthen their European network, increase their international visibility and promote mobility within Europe. Furthermore, a multidisciplinary approach is to be developed to jointly tackle current societal challenges. All partners are closely linked to their regional socio-political and economic environments. Their approach therefore also focuses on strengthening cooperation between the respective regions and regional stakeholders.
