How the ESC works – step by step

The ESC allows you to use your Paderborn University ID card throughout Europe, at no extra cost.

Here you can see how this works in practice.

Paderborn University integrates the ESC features into the existing digital student ID card.

Students do not need to apply for a new card; the ESC functionality is added automatically.

1.

Simply be enrolled

Are you enrolled at the University of Paderborn? That’s all you need – you don’t need to do anything else. No application, no extra forms.

2.

ESC on the ID card

Your UPB student ID card, available digitally in the UniNow app, contains the ESC elements. Simply download the app.

3.

Showcase at the host university

Are you arriving in Barcelona, Warsaw or Le Mans and would like to use the library? Simply show your ID or have the QR code scanned.

4.

Real-time verification

The host university checks your status in real time via the EU’s ESC router – secure, digital, no paperwork.

5.

Access to everything you need

Library ✓ Mensa (cafeteria and dining hall) ✓ Sports centre ✓ Discount on public transport ✓ All with a single ID card.
