Enrollment

Enrolment deadline for the Winter Semester 2026/27:
30 September 2026 (Extended deadline: 23 October 2026)

Enrolment without a valid visa or residence permit is not recommended!
Please note that you should not enroll without a corresponding visa or residence permit. Unfortunately, Paderborn University will not be unable to assist you with any subsequent issues that may arise from this situation! In particular, you remain legally obligated to pay the statutory health insurance contributions for the entire semester, even in the event of early de-enrollment!

Enrolment Procedure

1. You received an Acceptance Letter from Paderborn University
Prospective students who received an Acceptance Letter or “Vorprüfungsbescheid (VPB)” also need to enrol via the Paderborn University Applicant Portal. Therefore, they need to create a user account and to upload the Acceptance Letter or VPB and the other requested documents when formaly applying for admission. For technical reasons it is not possible to start directly with the enrolment process. When the application status switches to “Imma-Antrag möglich” the enrolment will be possible and you can continue the process like explained under #2 below. In case of further questions regarding the process, please check the manual.

2. You applied for admission directly via the Paderborn University Applicant Portal (only possible for EU-citizens or in case of German educational background)
As soon as your application shows the status “Imma-Antrag möglich” ("Enrolment application possible"), you can request online enrolment via PAUL. The enrollment documents required by the application must be uploaded in standard file formats. Once you have completed all relevant fields, you can submit the enrolment request.
Please note: If your application displays the status “Imma-Antrag unvollständig” ("Enrolment application incomplete") in the following days, this indicates that documents/information are missing or incorrect. The processing of the application is then reactivated. The application will now additionally include the processing status page, which lists the documents that need to be supplemented or corrected.

Note on payment of the semester fee
Please note that Paderborn University does not charge tuition fees. Only a semester fee is required for enrolment. Payment of the semester fee is a prerequisite for enrollment. Enrolment into the first semester and processing of payments will be possible starting 1 August 2026. No separate payment confirmation will be issued; the certificate of enrolment serves as proof of payment.
