In August 2016, the DMRC put a DSC Analysis (Netzsch DSC 214 Polyma) into operation. The new testing equipment allows for an extended thermal analysis of polymers used for both extrusion based and laser/powder based Additive Manufacturing processes.

From June 27-30, 2016, the Summer Topical Meeting of the American Society of Precision Engineering (ASPE) took place in Raleigh, NC (USA). The main focus of the conference was on dimensional accuracy and surface finish in Additive Manufacturing.
The DMRC had a successfull trade-fair appearance in Erfurt, Germany with an booth together with company Stükerjürgen Aerospace (DMRC partner) and six presentations at the conference. Furthermore Prof. Dr. Detmar Zimmer was the chairman of the "Konstrukteurstag" (Design Engineers' Day).
The DMRC is one of a few research institutes that owns an Arburg Freeformer. In June some researchers of the DMRC were at Arburg and got a machine specific training. After that the machine was put into operation successfully.

Since April 1st, 2016 the company Heraeus is a new Tier 2 member at the Direct Manufacturing Research Center. The DMRC is happy to welcome Heraeus as their 22nd industry partner.
The Paderborn located team "Pele-Force" participated in the OWL and NRW-Cup for the competition "Formula 1 in Schools". The purpose of this competition is to strengthen the technical education of students and encouraging the interest in technology. The team from the Paderborn Pelizaeus-Gymnasium is sponsored by the DMRC.
Being part of a network offers many advantages and opens up new perspectives. Technology transfer and industrial cooperation have a high priority at the University of Paderborn. In the ILH and the PIAF, there are long-standing contacts to companies of different sizes, regionally and nationwide.
