NeMo.bil – System of cooperating vehicles for individualised public transport

Overview

Programme line: New vehicle and system technologies

In the joint project "NeMo.bil", an innovative, swarm-like mobility system is being developed and prototyped. This enables a new form of sustainable and demand-oriented passenger and goods transport in rural areas. To this end, a new systemic approach is being pursued that combines swarms of automated small lightweight vehicles, designed for first and last mile use, into a convoy for longer distances. Once mechanically coupled, the small automated vehicles are pulled and powered by a larger vehicle, also automated, to cover longer distances. An operating platform including multi-objective optimisation algorithms enables efficient system operation for networked and flexible on-demand mobility services. By combining vehicles of different designs and intelligently linking them to form mobility swarms, a previously unattainable level of energy efficiency is achieved. Furthermore, significant improvements are expected in the areas of user acceptance, costs, resource use and emissions. This will create a mobility system of cooperating vehicles for sustainable, individualised public transport (iÖV).
