Hochstift is set to become a visible pioneer region

The Neue Mobilität Paderborn e. V. (NeMo) has defined its strategic direction for the future. Following the successful completion of the NeMo.bil project – which, with funding of around 18 million euros from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, resulted in the creation of an innovative system for on-demand mobility with a focus on rural areas – NeMo now aims to make autonomous mobility a reality.

“With the NeMo.bil project, we have launched an initiative that has attracted considerable attention both nationally and internationally. We intend to make active use of the insights gained and become the leading platform for the implementation of autonomous mobility. The Hochstift Paderborn region is set to be a visible pioneer in this regard,” explained NeMo Chairman Christoph Rüther following the general meeting, which approved the new strategy, alongside board members Jürgen Noch and Simone Probst, Vice-President of Paderborn University.

Neue Mobilität Paderborn e. V., whose members come from business, academia and local authorities and whose initiator, Prof. Dr Thomas Tröster, is Vice-President for Research and Academic Careers at Paderborn University, is thus building on previous initiatives. In parallel with the implementation of the new strategy, the association is continuing its cycle of test drives in the ‘Zukunftsquartier’ district in Paderborn. In these activities, NeMo is coordinating closely with HOLON, a subsidiary of the BENTELER Group, which is also conducting tests there.

As a platform for autonomous mobility, NeMo aims to create the conditions enabling stakeholders in local public transport to integrate autonomous vehicles into regular service. As part of this, the association works closely with, amongst others, the local public transport brands HochstiftBewegt (Paderborn and Höxter districts) and Padersprinter (City of Paderborn). Through its activities, NeMo aims to make valuable contributions to ensuring mobility and the economic viability of public transport. Training, knowledge transfer and regional value creation are at the heart of the association’s work.

“We are laying the foundations on which the implementation of autonomous transport in our region can be learnt, tested and further developed. In doing so, we see ourselves as a key driver, catalyst and networker, taking on the overarching coordination of the entire project. We carry out collaborations with external partners, including those from other regions, with clearly defined roles and mutual added value,” emphasised Rüther.

In recruiting new members, NeMo is pursuing the clear objective of linking membership even more closely to specific roles, contributions and opportunities for participation within the Centre for Autonomous Mobility. This active network of partners is intended to contribute to the development, implementation and further advancement of autonomous mobility, whilst at the same time benefiting from the resulting added value.
