Around 250 graduates of the teaching degree programmes at Paderborn University celebrated their Bachelor's and Master's of Education degrees in December. In the Auditorium maximum, which was packed with more than 600 attendees, the prospective teachers were presented with their congratulatory certificates.

Facing new challenges in everyday working life

Prof Dr Sabine Fechner, Deputy Director of the PLAZ - Professional School of Education, congratulated the graduates on their remarkable achievements during their studies and looked ahead to their future careers. This is full of challenges - both subject-related and interdisciplinary. In order to do justice to the complex tasks, they need good training, but also conviction: "You are an invaluable asset to our society, to every pupil. I hope you enjoy the teaching profession and that you remain enthusiastic about it," said Fechner to the graduates.

"You have chosen a profession with a future, for which you have received high-quality preparation by studying to become a teacher at Paderborn University," Prof Dr Volker Schöppner, Vice President for Teaching, Studies and Quality Management at Paderborn University, added. Addressing family and friends of the graduates, Schöppner emphasised: "A degree is always a team success - so my warmest congratulations to you too."

Michèle Doré and Carolin Honermann from the Student Council for Teacher Education, who helped organise the ceremony, also congratulated their (former) fellow students on their successful graduation and took those present on a humorous journey through everyday student life.

Honouring special achievements

Prof. Dr Christine Freitag presented the certificates of completion for the profile programme, which students complete voluntarily to further develop their qualifications: "The profile programme helps to train teachers who can develop schools professionally," Freitag emphasised its importance. She then presented prizes for outstanding achievements together with sponsors. On behalf of the Philology Association, Hendrik Sauerwald honoured Marlon Rimke and Sören Sokolowski for their extraordinary commitment to the student body. Björn Christian Berlin and Laura Johanna Windßus received their certificates for the same commitment from Ralf Otto of the Education and Science Union (GEW). Hanna Sophie Grummel (in absentia), Franziska Jehn and Anne Thiele were honoured with the PLAZEF prize for outstanding final theses. Matthias Rütten presented the award on behalf of the financial services provider MLP.
