As part of the "International Open Access Week", the University of Paderborn is hosting a series of events at the University Library that revolve around the topic of "Open Access". During three online lectures, interested parties can inform themselves about free access to scientific literature. Open Access (OA) is intended to accelerate the scientific communication process, improve the visibility of research results, promote international and interdisciplinary networking, and thus increase research efficiency. In its "Open Access Policy" published on February 20, the University of Paderborn recommends its scientists to publish their research results via OA and thus make them accessible to the worldwide scientific community as well as to the general public.

To kick off the series, Laura Kupke, subject librarian at the University Library, will give a talk on "What is Open Access?" on Monday, October 23, from 4 to 4:30 p.m., in which she will provide basic reflections on open access in the context of open science and scholarly publishing. On Wednesday, October 25, Anna Nickel, the University's Open Access Officer and the University Library's Head of Acquisitions and Collection Development, and Dr. Tassja Weber, Staff Office for Educational Innovation and Higher Education Didactics, will give a talk from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on "Openness Connects: Open Access and Open Educational Resources", they will give an overview of the ideas and basics of Creative Commons licenses as an interface between Open Educational Resources and Open Access. Finally, on Friday, October 27, from 11 to 11:15 a.m., Sylvia Sobiech, Deputy Head of Acquisitions and Collection Development at the University Library, will briefly present the Open Access services offered by Paderborn University Library. Scientists can receive financial support for the publication of research results via the Open Access Publication Fund. In addition, the university library offers a publication service through which authors can publish their scientific documents open access free of charge.
