Our university is taking part in the 1250th anniversary of the city of Paderborn in 2027 with a special format: the first Long Night of Science at UPB with the motto “Wissen, wie der Hase läuft” (meaning: “Knowing how things work”).

Preparations for this event are picking up speed ... Our "Wissenshase" has now reached the campus and many members of the university have already come across it, as evidenced by the many photos received from the participation campaign in April. You too can join in our university's Long Night of Science and show how things work.

The event will take place on Friday, 9 April 2027, from 5 pm until midnight on campus. Together with you, we hope to create a varied and inspiring programme that showcases the diversity and strengths of our University, while offering our visitors of all ages an informative, exciting, and entertaining evening.

To ensure the event’s success and to highlight the many facets of Paderborn University, we warmly invite you to contribute your experiments, talks, presentations, guided tours, information booths, or other creative formats to the Long Night of Science. You are very welcome to submit your suggestions and ideas to us. Please use the following form.

You can find out how to proceed with the submitted photos relating to the “Wissenshase” here.

Interactive Campaign: Search for the Winning Photo - Foyer Exhibition Featuring the "Wissenshasen"

The first participatory campaign linked to the Long Night of Science (LNdW), which is scheduled for 2027, has sparked a great deal of creativity, for which we would like to thank you very much! Your great ideas really inspired us! Over Easter, 125 colourful, 3D-printed “Wissenshasen” (rabbits of knowledge) were hidden across campus to draw attention to the event’s motto, “Wissen, wie der Hase läuft” (meaning: “Knowing how things work”). Many staff members responded to the call to capture their new roommate in an original photo. From Monday afternoon, 11 May, to Wednesday, 13 May, the submitted pictures will be displayed in an exhibition in the foyer of Paderborn University. You will have the opportunity to vote for your favourite entry there. The winning image will become part of the LNdW campaign.

The exhibition of the pictures will also take place in the HNI afterwards. More detailed information will follow.

Starting point: "Drei-Hasen-Fenster"

As the LNdW is embedded in the city's anniversary, the motto was based on the "Drei-Hasen-Fenster".

Our key visual

The bunny theme will serve as a visual anchor for the marketing campaign, as it can be combined with backgrounds, icons or other elements.

The "Wissenshase" - the unifying theme

Three paths lead through the university

There will be a signposting system to help visitors find their way around. Your offers will be located along these three paths. To make it easier to find, each project/offer will be given a "house number" along the way.

Paths through the university

The starting point of the wayfinding system is the main entrance. From there, the cultural promenade leads to your offers from the cultural sector, the experimental avenue leads to your ideas from the STEM sector and families with (small) children can go on a voyage of discovery on the knowledge trail.
