"From the cubicle to the lecture theatre": Uwe Hünemeier visits Paderborn University

Location: Q1.101

Uwe Hünemeier, assistant coach and former captain of SC Paderborn 07, will be coming to Paderborn University on Monday 17 June for a Q&A entitled ‘From the dressing room to the lecture theatre: Leadership lessons from professional football’. As part of Prof. Dr Kirsten Thommes' Organisational Behaviour seminar, Hünemeier will give students insights into his career as a player and coach and talk about how leadership from professional football can be effectively transferred to the business world. The event will take place at 11 a.m. in room Q1.101. Anyone interested can register by emailing miro.mehic@upb.de.

How do you motivate your team after defeats? How do you integrate young players into the team structure and what is the best way to deal with diversity in a team? Hünemeier will answer these and other questions during his visit. The students will also hear very personal anecdotes from the life of a leading player.

Hünemeier was born in Rietberg in 1986 and began his career as a professional footballer in 2005 at Borussia Dortmund. In 2018, after stops at Energie Cottbus and Brighton & Hove Albion, he moved to SC Paderborn 07, where he had already played from 2013 to 2015. As a centre-back, Hünemeier played a total of 192 matches for Paderborn in seven years before ending his professional career in 2023 at the age of 37. Since then, he has supported the club as an assistant coach in Lukas Kwasniok's coaching team.
