About what, how and why do scientists actually conduct research and what does it have to do with our lives? A new series of events at Paderborn University invites people to discuss precisely these questions. Researchers visit rural regions and talk to the citizens about their work. In September and October, Dr Christof Eigner from the Paderborn Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS) and Dirk Waldhoff from the Collaborative Research Centre TRR 142 "Tailored Nonlinear Photonics" will give so-called "Science Talks". In Brilon and Warburg, they invite all interested parties to a journey into the quantum world. Participation is free of charge, but prior registration is requested.
Quantum technologies are currently being talked about a lot. There is often speculation about whether we will soon be able to count on quantum computers. Is absolutely tap-proof communication really possible? What are the possible practical applications of quantum physics findings - today and in the future? Visitors to the "Science Talks" can and should ask the scientists these and many other questions.
For the second "Science Talk", the organisers invite the public to the lecture room of the Vereinigte Volksbank in Warburg – Waldhoff's hometown – on Thursday, 26 October at 6 pm. Registration is possible via the Volkshochschule Diemel-Egge-Weser.
