Kick-off event for the "Festival of Wondering" at Paderborn University

Ort: Hörsaal O2/Online

Under the motto "Marvelling together, broadening perspectives, overcoming boundaries", the "Highdigenous Live! The Festival of Wondering", organised in collaboration with the innovative learning network "Kabakoo". To give a foretaste of the fascinating journey through music, architecture, education and work in the Sahel region, Prof. Dr Martin Schneider, Professorship for Personnel Economics at Paderborn University, cordially invites all interested parties to a kick-off event on Wednesday, 17 January at 6 pm. The event can be followed both in lecture theatre O2 and via livestream. Anyone wishing to participate online is asked to register with Martin Schneider at martin.schneider@uni-paderborn.de by 16 January.

At the opening event, Dr Yanick Kemayou, who studied at the University of Paderborn and holds a doctorate in economics, will give a keynote speech on the "Kabakoo" project and the idea behind the festival. Together with his wife Michèle Traoré, he founded the "Kabakoo Academies" in 2018, with learning centres in Bamako, Mali, among other places. In his lecture, Kemayou explains the philosophy behind Kabakoo and the extent to which the learning project can be an alternative to established learning organisations in Africa. Mamadou Koné, architect and head restaurateur of the world heritage sites in Timbuktu, and Cheick Diallo, award-winning designer from Bamako, will also be joining us from Mali for the opening event.

About the festival

The "Festival of Wondering" brings the central questions about the future of the Sahel region to life through concerts, seminars, discussions and VR installations. "The festival invites all students and interested parties from Mali and Westphalia to take part. It is open to everyone - ideas and your own activities are very welcome," says Schneider, who is also chairman of the Paderborn-based association "Kabakoo - Houses of Wondering". The event is sponsored by the LWL Cultural Foundation as part of its (post-)colonialism programme.
