Le Mans University (LMU) - Experience France, broaden your horizons
Le Mans University (LMU) is located in the heart of France, just 55 minutes by TGV from Paris and, as a COLOURS partner university, offers you much more than a traditional semester abroad. The multidisciplinary university with around 12,000 students combines a lively campus culture with one of the most beautiful medieval old towns in Europe, strong research in the field of cultural heritage and a warm welcoming culture for international students.
A university that suits you
Le Mans Université was founded in 1977 and has since established itself as an important educational and research partner in the Grand Ouest region. With 38 master's programmes, 8 doctoral programmes and over 360 research professors, it offers a wide range of academic courses - from humanities and law to languages, natural sciences and engineering.
Within the COLOURS network, Le Mans Université is particularly active in the field of intangible cultural heritage and urban development, a focus that makes the university internationally visible.
Life on campus
Student life With over 200 events a year - from academic conferences to cultural festivals - there is always something going on on campus. Numerous university groups from the fields of culture, sport, the environment and international exchange make campus life lively. The Student Life Centre EVE is the central point of contact for all leisure activities.
Sport Over 40 sports programmes are available to you every week - from team sports to outdoor activities. The SUAPS sports programmes are an ideal way for international students to make friends quickly.
Accommodation There are around 716 rooms available on campus in CROUS student residences and a further 205 places in student residences. The International Welcome Office will help you find accommodation before you arrive.
The city of Le Mans
Le Mans is world-famous for the legendary 24-hour race, but the city has much more to offer. The Cité Plantagenêt, the historic old town district, is one of the best-preserved medieval city centres in Europe: winding cobbled streets, over 100 half-timbered houses and the imposing Saint-Julien Cathedral from the 11th to 15th centuries, which houses the oldest surviving stained glass window in France.
There are also ancient Roman walls, lively markets, free museums and an active jazz and cultural scene. In summer, light projections on the historic façades transform the city into an open-air art experience(La Nuit des Chimères).
And yes - if you study here for a semester, you can experience the 24-hour race up close in June
