About Kuan-Hsun Chen
Kuan-Hsun Chen will join Paderborn University in October 2026 as Professor and Head of the Computer Systems group in the Department of Computer Science. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from TU Dortmund University in 2019, where his dissertation was awarded summa cum laude and received a dissertation award. He is currently a tenured Assistant Professor at the University of Twente. Previously, from August 2019 to August 2021, he held a postdoctoral position in the Design and Automation for Embedded Systems group at TU Dortmund University in Germany.
His work has received several distinctions, including Outstanding TPC member at DAC'26, Distinguished Reviewer Award at DSN'26, Best Paper Nomination at Euro-Par'25, Outstanding Reviewer Award at CODES+ISSS'24, Best Paper Award at ECRTS’23, Best Paper Nomination at DATE'21 and Dissertation Award at TU Dortmund University (2019). He has published more than 90 scientific works in leading peer-reviewed journals, including IEEE TC, IEEE TCAD, and ACM TECS, as well as at international conferences, including RTSS, RTAS, DAC, and DATE. He also actively serves on the Technical Program Committees of premier conferences, including EuroSys, DSN, RTSS, DAC, and DATE, and regularly reviews for peer-reviewed journals in computer science and engineering. He serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine and has held leading organizational roles in the research community, including Topic Chair for A6 at DATE 2027, OSPERT 2025 Co-Chair, and ICCD 2025 Track Co-Chair. He is currently a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of HiPEAC.
Outside his academic work, he dedicates his time to mentorship and open-source development. He has been a volunteer mentor in the ESA Summer of Code in Space in 2017 and in Google Summer of Code since 2016, focusing on open-source development for RTEMS, a widely used real-time operating system.
