About Umar Irshad

Umar Irshad is a doctoral candidate in the Sustainable Materials Chemistry research group at the University of Paderborn, supervised by Junior Professor Dr. M. Nieves López Salas and funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan, where he consistently ranked on the Dean’s Honor List.

Before joining the University of Paderborn, Umar worked on a research project during his master's studies, funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, which focused on the valorization of power plant waste for cost-effective CO₂ capture. During this work, he designed and developed a laboratory-scale fixed-bed adsorption system for removing gaseous pollutants.

Driven by a strong interest in sustainable materials development, Umar joined the Sustainable Materials Chemistry group to broaden his scientific expertise and translational research experience. His doctoral research focuses on the synthesis, design, and structural investigation of heteroatom-doped carbon-based materials, with particular emphasis on their application in hydrogen peroxide production and the enhancement of electrochemical performance.
