The exhibition "Wurzelwerk", which can be seen from 14 March to 26 April at KleppArt - Rooms for Textiles and Culture at Paderborn University, shows works by the artist Anne Carnein. Carnein studied fine art/sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe under Professor Stephan Balkenhol, with whom she was also a master student from 2012 to 2013. She then received several artist-in-residence programmes in the United States and Germany and took up a substitute professorship for sculpture at Union College, Schenectady NY (USA). Carnein lives and works in Württemberg Allgäu. Her last exhibitions in 2023 were shown in New York City, Ulm, Württembergisches Allgäu, Taiwan and Ravensburg. In the coming summer semester 2024 she will be teaching at the University of Paderborn. We would like to cordially invite you to the vernissage on Wed, 13 March at 6 pm.
The plants and mushrooms on display are made of fabric, yarn and a wire "skeleton". The artist has modelled the shapes and colours from a wide variety of fabrics and a colour palette of yarns. An essential part of the objects is the root - both literally and figuratively. "It is very important to me to maintain a balance between the above-ground - the part that is visible to us - and the underground - the part that is hidden from us," says Carnein. While we rarely get to see the roots in nature, these roots present themselves as a natural part of her objects.
