International maths competition at Paderborn University for the first time

Location: Mensa Forum

To coincide with the "International Mathematics Day", the international mathematics competition "Náboj" will be held at Paderborn University for the first time on Friday, 13 March. Paderborn is one of six locations in Germany and the only venue in North Rhine-Westphalia. Starting at 10 a.m., 200 students from the region will gather in the Mensa Forum (cafeteria and dining hall). In contrast to traditional Mathematics Olympiads, they do not compete against each other alone, but in teams. This means that success depends not only on the individual skills of the members, but also on efficient teamwork. The competition lasts two hours, during which the teams try to complete as many tasks as possible. The team that has solved the most tasks correctly at the end wins. The award ceremony takes place immediately after a short break.

"Náboj" has been held regularly in various countries since 2005. In addition to Germany, 15 other countries are represented this year, including Singapore, Estonia, Hungary, Morocco and Uzbekistan. The special thing about this competition is that the teams compete at all locations at the same time and are given the same tasks. At Paderborn University, the event is organised by Prof. Dr. Martin Kolb, Dr. Max Hoffmann and Dr. Benjamin Hinrichs from the Institute of Mathematics. The event is supported by the Institute of Mathematics and especially by the Stochastics working group and the science communication team of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 358.
