PROMOS supports study-related stays worldwide with partial scholarships

With the support of the DAAD and the BMBF, Paderborn University is offering its students the PROMOS scholarship programme (Programme for Increasing Student Mobility) for the year 2022. PROMOS is designed to support students of Paderborn University in successfully completing their study-related stay abroad and to enable significantly more mobility by supporting shorter stays abroad (up to a maximum of six months).

With PROMOS 2022, Paderborn University supports semester stays as well as study-related internships.

Information and funding conditions

PROMOS partial scholarships include different funding flat rates depending on the program line. These are based on the country-specific funding rates set by the DAAD.

Please note: Due to the high number of applicants, the partial scholarships granted for a project abroad are usually significantly lower than the maximum possible funding amount. Furthermore, only part of the stay is usually financed by partial scholarship instalments.

A selection committee decides on the actual amount of the partial scholarship (monthly partial scholarships and travel expenses, if applicable).

    Possible funding of study visits:

  •         Monthly partial scholarship installment between 300€ and 500€ (depending on the destination country)
  •         If applicable, country-specific travel flat rate

    Possible promotion of study-related internships:

  •         Monthly partial scholarship installment between 300€ and 500€ (depending on the destination country)
  •         If applicable, country-specific travel flat rate

A PROMOS selection committee will be established to ensure the highest possible degree of neutrality in the awarding of PROMOS partial scholarships. This committee will consider the following criteria when deciding on the scholarships:

  •     Qualification and performance of the student
  •     Sensibility of the planned stay in relation to previous studies
  •     Existing language skills
  •     Degree of preparation of the student
  •     Study and research opportunities

Extra-professional qualifications and general personality traits:

  •     Commitment to academic self-administration and higher education policy issues
  •     Ability to communicate and interact beyond the boundaries of your own professional horizon
  •     Social and cultural commitment
  •     Social and cultural interests

The PROMOS partial scholarship program is aimed at properly enrolled students in bachelor and master programs of all disciplines at Paderborn University. PROMOS scholarship holders must provide appropriate proof of enrollment during the application process as well as for the funding period.

The amount and composition of the funding depends on the commission decision, the length of stay, and the partial scholarship rate/travel allowance determined by the DAAD for the respective target country. Tuition fees cannot be paid. Funding by PROMOS can begin no earlier than 01.01.2024 (retroactive) and ends no later than 31.12.2024.

Students who have already been awarded a PROMOS partial scholarship in an earlier stage of their studies (e.g. during their Bachelor's degree) may again be awarded a PROMOS partial scholarship in a later stage of their studies (e.g. during their Master's degree). Several PROMOS partial scholarships can also be combined within a training period, provided that the total amount of these does not exceed the total funding period of 6 months.

Important: Funding can only be provided for regions for which there is no travel warning from the German Federal Foreign Office. If a travel warning is issued during the stay, the scholarship holders are required to leave the country. Funding will not be continued in these cases.

Students who wish to apply for a PROMOS partial scholarship for their stay abroad must submit their complete application documents to the International Office in due time (see application deadlines).
