Book „Additive manufacturing of components and structures“

Additive manufacturing processes are said to be trendsetting processes and are enjoying more and more attention. The manufacturing process takes place layer-by-layer and enables the production of complex components as well as filigree and yet stiff and high-strength structures. Thus, individual manufacture and small-batch production is possible.

The new technical book by the editors Prof. H.A. Richard,
Dr.-Ing. B. Schramm and T. Zipsner conveys in 18 individual contributions the possibilities and limitations of additive manufacturing.

The technical book results from the first conference on “Additive manufactured components and structures” of the German Association for Materials Research and Testing (DVM) which took place on 2nd and 3rd November 2016 in Berlin.

Numerous speakers of the conference have been gained as authors for this technical book.

The authors are experts from different institutes of universities, research institutes and companies.
Following main topics are discussed in the book:

  • Applications of additive manufacturing
  •  Practical examples
  • Material properties for polymer components and metal components
  • Influence of manufacturing processes and of post-treatment processes
  • Modeling of material properties and design concepts
  • Impact on lifetime by means of additive manufacturing
  • Filigree lightweight structures
  • Damage tolerance concepts

Target group for this new technical book are engineers with the focus on development, construction, calculation, material development, material testing, damage analysis and quality management. Medical doctors, medical engineers, inter alia from the radiology, surgery, orthopaedics are also addressed. Furthermore, this book is also interesting for students of engineering sciences and natural sciences as well as of medical science and medical technology and related fields.
