We have a strong track record in technology transfer and are well connected within a dynamic region!

Paderborn University has an outstanding track record in successful cooperation with industry and technology transfer.

The foundation of this success was laid in 1980 by computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf. He donated 50 million deutschmarks to Paderborn University to promote applied research at the intersection of computer science and mechanical engineering. This approach -visionary and unique for its time - has resulted Paderborn University's strong relationships with local and global companies. To date, more than 200 successful start-ups have been established as university spin-offs creating over 8,500 jobs, 82% of which are in the region Ostwestfalen-Lippe.

At Paderborn University, innovative research - for and with industry - is conducted within our joint ventures. Collaborations within the technology network Intelligent Technical Systems (it's OWL) and with the local Fraunhofer institutions are outstanding examples.

Paderborn University collaborates with Fraunhofer Institutions in application-oriented research to intensify interdisciplinarity.

Our Joint Ventures are the gateways between key research areas and companies. Their purpose is to stimulate knowledge transfer.
