A thirst for knowledge and academic curiosity, a desire to spend time abroad and outstanding academic achievements - these are the criteria that Paderborn University's Emeriti Award winners must fulfil. Janina Schaa combines all of these skills and has impressed with her excellent academic achievements and her commitment to her studies. She will receive the award for the year 2023 and will be supported with the scholarship of 300 euros per month for one year from the winter semester 23/24. The prize, which is made up of donations from former professors, is awarded in cooperation with the OWL Study Fund Foundation.

Exceptional academic achievements

Schaa discovered her passion for numbers while she was still at school. She became interested in engineering during a stay abroad at an American high school. She combined both areas of interest in the Bachelor's degree programme "Technomathematics" with a focus on mechanical engineering at the University of Paderborn. Schaa graduated with an outstanding thesis on the subject of "Wave Equations". She is currently studying for a Master's degree in mathematics. Away from the lecture theatre, the prizewinner guides other students through the mathematical world of algebra and analysis as a student assistant. Further information about her can be found on the alumni website.
