Web and corporate design upgrade

Paderborn University is increasingly finding itself in competition on a national and international level: not just between the finest minds in research and teaching, but also in technology and administration, as well as for exceptional students. Being successful in funding applications, in developing (special) research areas, or in the upcoming competition for excellence therefore crucially requires that we present ourselves as a single, consistent unit and shape Paderborn University as a modern, recognisable brand that is well positioned for the future.

The project

A brand's external visual appearance is reflected in a corporate design that is mandatory for all Paderborn University members. This therefore calls for an online presence that meets consistent, hugely modern requirements and is tailored to the needs of various target groups. Given this, the University Executive Board of Paderborn University has launched the ‘web and corporate design upgrade’ (WeCoDe) project, under the joint auspices of IMT and the Press, Communication and Marketing department.

Procedure

‘WeCoDe’ is being implemented across various individual sub-projects with a transitional period for existing materials. At the same time, we will develop and expand the brand architecture designed to incorporate the concerns of faculties, institutes, facilities and other units and also to ensure a clear, consistent and contemporary internal and external appearance for Paderborn University.

Next steps

The first step towards implementing a new corporate design is to develop the basic elements. With the university-wide survey and another iteration, the future logo, the updated colour spectrum, the new font styles and decorative elements have already been defined in the meantime. You can get a first glimpse of these elements in the presentation of the September meeting (see Komo course WeCoDe). The logo, colours and decorative elements, together with the type fonts, form the basis for the development of the corporate design templates, for print communication and digital media contexts. These design templates will be available up from April 2023 via the brand portal we are developing at the moment.

The revision of the website will be carried out in various subprojects. The subprojects "Technology", "MGDBDI" and "Content Marketing", for example, will deal with fundamental questions on determination, information security, server and content architecture. This is where the foundation for the future web environment is laid. The aim is for the web environment to be an information platform with a strong focus towards external target groups after the upgrade. The sub-projects that will be involved in the revision of the website will therefore take care of defining the content, structure, design and key performance indicators of the respectively defined thematic pages with regard to the target groups defined per work step. "International Affairs", "Research" and "Transfer" were commissioned as subgroups by the project's steering committee so far.

‘WeCoDe’ affects us all!

The upgrade will only be successful and help us to establish the Paderborn University brand if it is built on a foundation of positive response and acceptance among all university members. We will therefore be providing you with regular updates about the progress of the project on this page, and offering you an opportunity to get involved and contribute to ‘WeCoDe’. Please feel free to email us with your questions, comments and concerns regarding the further development of the Paderborn University brand, we would love to hear your feedback!
