What and for whom are the InRegioFIT workshops?
In the workshops, situations typical of university life and the workplace are examined in detail, and participants reflect on and practise their language skills in these contexts.
The ‘FIT at university’ workshop series focuses on providing support for everyday life as a student in a German-speaking environment. Amongst other things, you will receive guidance on how to
identify the key points in lectures and take effective notes,
prepare effectively for exams,
deal with exam anxiety and procrastination,
communicate well in emails and during consultation hours,
present yourself confidently in seminar discussions and presentations,
plan your own workflow when writing an academic (thesis) paper and set realistic goals,
write in an academically correct manner, and
effectively check and improve the structure and language of your text before submission.
The workshop series ‘FIT for the Transition to Work’ focuses on preparing for work internships, part-time jobs, work-study positions and your first employment after graduation. In the workshops, you will receive support on how to
find suitable job vacancies that match your profile,
assess job advertisements effectively,
prepare compelling application documents and tailor them to a specific role,
understand and practise small talk and polite communication in a professional context,
handle language uncertainties and new situations with confidence,
prepare linguistically for internships, part-time student jobs or starting your career, and continue to develop your language skills, and
learn from international professionals working in Germany.
The workshops are primarily aimed at international undergraduates and PhD students at the University of Paderborn.
What will we do there?
Through input from the workshop leaders and practical examples, you will gain a basic understanding of the various topics. Through individual, pair and group exercises, you will develop strategies for successful study or a smooth transition into the world of work, with a focus on using language appropriately in different situations. In this way, you will learn to assess your own strengths and weaknesses accurately and to develop your (language) skills in a targeted manner.
