Salary

The calculation and payment of all civil servants' salaries is carried out by the NRW State Office for Salaries and Benefits (LBV NRW).

The salaries of civil servants are paid in advance. The payment date is the last bank working day of each month. Only the LBV can provide information on salary issues. Please have your LBV personnel number ready in case of queries. This number was provided to you at the beginning of your employment and can be found on every pay slip. Further information can be found here.

The civil servant is obliged to check his or her salary notifications carefully. Furthermore, there is an obligation to immediately notify the Personnel Department and the LBV in writing of any changes affecting the person (e.g. change in marital status, bank details, change of address, birth of a child, etc.).

See also section - Change in Personal Circumstances.

Commencement of payment

After delivery of the appointment certificate, the LBV will be informed about the employment in the civil service. For the first payment of the remuneration, the LBV requires a processing time of usually up to 6 weeks, so that there may be delays in the first payment of the remuneration by the LBV. Generally, a partial payment is made, which is then offset against subsequent months.

Please note that the LBV does not issue a remuneration notice for each month. You will only receive a new salary statement if the amount paid has changed or if other significant changes have occurred (change in tax class, part-time employment, etc.). The salary statement is numbered consecutively.

If you have any questions regarding your remuneration statement, please contact department 4.2.
