Temporary civil service

Temporary civil service relationships end automatically by expiration of time, unless an extension is granted upon application in due time before the expiration of the temporary civil service relationship on the basis of legal provisions (Higher Education Act NRW, State Civil Service Act NRW).

Dismissal by operation of law and by administrative act

If a new civil service or official relationship is established with another employer, the civil servant is usually dismissed from the previous employer by operation of law in accordance with § 22 BeamtStG.

The termination can also be effected by dismissal on own request according to § 27 LBG NRW, if you intend to take up an activity in the private sector or abroad. In this case, an application for dismissal from the civil service must be submitted to the personnel department in good time (at least 4 weeks before taking up the new activity).

In any case, please inform your personnel officer immediately if you intend to establish a new official or service relationship under public law/ take up a new activity in the private sector or abroad.

Retirement or transfer to retirement

As a rule, the active civil service relationship ends when the civil servant reaches the relevant age limit in accordance with Section 25 of the Civil Service Status Act (BeamtStG) and Section 31 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Civil Service Act (LBG NRW) or through retirement in accordance with Sections 26 et seq. of the Civil Service Status Act (BeamtStG) and Section 31 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Civil Service Act (LBG NRW). Notes to be observed

In the context of the termination of your civil service relationship, you must ensure that your vacation entitlement is processed in good time, otherwise it will be forfeited. Any claims for compensation can only arise under the conditions of § 19 a of the Release and Leave Ordinance NRW.
Likewise, keys and other university property in your possession must be returned to the responsible offices before your civil service relationship ends.
