Content

Would you like to become more proficient at writing clear, concise, and reader-friendly academic texts in English? Would you like to communicate your research more confidently without relying on generative AI?

This course offers practical strategies, techniques, and tools to ensure that your writing is grammatically correct, clear, and easy to follow. Practical exercises and short writing tasks will help you apply the rules and theory covered during the sessions. Additionally, you will receive individualised feedback on your writing in a dedicated coaching session from the course instructor, a native English speaker. The course covers core aspects of academic writing and will be adapted to participants’ questions and writing needs. 

Topics may include the following: 

  • Common grammatical errors and accurate use of tense and aspect; 
  • Effective use of punctuation; 
  • Analysis of the language and structure of journal articles and conference papers; 
  • Useful academic phrases (“chunks”) and vocabulary; 
  • Strategies for improving writing style and publication success.
TrainerDr Pamela Heidi Douglas
Trainer´s backgroundPamela Heidi Douglas is a lecturer at Paderborn University and a native English speaker. Originally from Canada, she has studied and taught English in countries across Europe, North America, and Africa. After completing her Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Heidi began teaching English courses at Paderborn University in 2018. She also has worked as a proofreader and editor of academic manuscripts and texts for over ten years.
