Paderborn University Society awards 2014 German Scholarships to Britta Wesselmann and Daniel Frerkes

Britta Wesselmann and Daniel Frerkes will be able to devote themselves even more intensively to their studies in the future: The two students of Paderborn University are among the scholarship holders of the Universitätsgesellschaft Paderborn as of the winter semester 2014/15. For the next two semesters, they will be supported with a Germany scholarship of 300 euros per month. In total, both scholarship holders will receive 3,600 euros each.

The scholarships are awarded together with the Studienfonds OWL foundation. They are financed in equal parts by membership fees from the University Society and a grant from the OWL Study Fund Foundation.

Great joy among the scholarship holders

Before beginning her Bachelor's degree in International Business Studies at Paderborn University, Britta Wesselmann completed her training as a bank clerk. The winter semester marks the beginning of Britta Wesselmann's third semester. She is working at Wincor Nixdorf to gain further practical experience alongside her studies. The scholarship is not only intended to enable her to spend time abroad during her studies and thus gain intercultural experience, it also lets her focus more on successfully completing her studies.

After Daniel Frerkes completed his Bachelor's degree at FH Südwestfalen in Meschede in June 2013, he transferred to Paderborn University and is now in his third Master's semester of Industrial Engineering and Management in Mechanical Engineering. The 25-year-old knows how important initial work experience is, which is why he has been working as a student trainee at Paderborn-based Wincor Nixdorf Manufacturing since March 2014. There he supports process and production management. Daniel Frerkes would like to use his theoretical and practical skills to pursue a career as an industrial engineer after his studies.

Universitätsgesellschaft Paderborn and Stiftung Studienfonds OWL for the OWL region

The Foundation Study Fund OWL is a cooperation project of the five universities in East Westphalia-Lippe that is unique in Germany. The foundation aims to provide sustainable support for students in East Westphalia-Lippe and to build up a network between sponsors and sponsored students in order to strengthen OWL as a university and business location in the long term. The University Society has been supporting these goals for three years now. To date, a total of nine scholarships have been awarded to students.

Thanks to the University Society

A heartfelt thank you goes to all members of the University Society, whose commitment has made it possible to support these two gifted students.
