Higher semesters

Have you already achieved sufficient grades for your desired degree programme to start in a higher semester?

In principle, the regular application and enrolment process also applies here.

However, please note the following information:

  • When selecting a degree programme, make sure that the 3rd column of the study programme shows "Höhere Fachsemester".
  • For enrolment in a higher semester, you will need a current placement certificate is required. In your own interest, you should apply for the placement certificate early, as the procedure can take some time.
Exception: "returning students", i.e. applicants who were already enrolled at Paderborn University in the chosen degree programme/subject, may not require a placement certificate if the semester for which enrolment is requested is admission-free.

Important for higher semesters with restricted admission:

  • You cannot take part in the selection procedure without a current placement certificate. It is therefore necessary to submit the certificate for higher semesters with restricted admission when submitting your application (not at the time of enrolment) - it is not possible to submit it later! Please note the application deadline for higher semesters with restricted admission.

  • Relevant for teacher training programmes and the two-subject Bachelor's degree:

If you would like to choose a subject area with restricted admission and one without restricted admission: Apply for the subject area with restricted admission and select "subject without restricted admission" as the 2nd subject. The desired free subject area must only be specified upon enrolment.

If you would like to choose two subject areas with restricted admission: Submit two applications in which you select "subject without admission restrictions" as the second subject.
If you receive admissions for both applications, you can submit an enrolment application for the desired subject combinations and be enrolled with both desired subjects (provided there are no obstacles to enrolment).
If you receive admission for one of the desired subjects, you have the option of submitting an enrolment application for the desired degree programme with this subject in combination with a subject without admission restrictions.
