The Learning Agreement

General information on Learning Agreements can be found on this website. From the academic year 2021/22 onwards, Learning Agreements must be completed online within Mobility Online (except UK).

1. first inform yourself on the websites of the different faculties about the faculty-specific regulations and

2. then use the tutorial to create DLA within Mobility Online.

The Learning Agreement "Before the mobility" contains the (preliminary) course selection at the partner university (Table A) as well as the recognition of these courses at Paderborn University (Table B).
The Learning Agreement has to be completed before the start of your mobility and has to be uploaded to Mobility Online signed by all participants.
We recommend the following steps:

  • Selection of courses at the partner university with the help of the (online) course catalogue (if applicable of the previous year), which you will receive from the partner university.
  • Inform yourself about the recognition process of your faculty.
  • Consultation with your programme officer and/or recognition officer at Paderborn University.
  • Read the testimonials of former students
  • Follow the instructions for the creation of the Online Learning Agreement (online as of April). Please note that you have to take at least 24 ECTS at the host university.
  • Then upload the complete OLA Learning Agreement (all pages, all signatures) as a PDF in Mobility Online.

The Learning Agreement "During the mobility" contains changes in the course selection at the partner university (Table A) as well as the changed recognition of these courses at Paderborn University (Table B).
The document has to be created within seven weeks after the beginning of the mobility (start of lectures) and has to be uploaded in Mobility Online signed by all participants.
We recommend the following steps:

Please note that 24 ECTS must still be taken at the host university.

The Learning Agreement "After the mobility" contains an overview of your academic achievements at the partner university and their recognition at Paderborn University.
The Learning Agreement "After the mobility" is not one document, but consists of two separate documents to be submitted:

1. Transcript of Records of the partner university:

  • Transcript of your semester abroad with courses taken, ECTS number, grades, etc. The Transcript of Records will either be sent to the International Office of t Paderborn University or to you. We will notify you as soon as the transcript arrives. Please upload the document in Mobility Online immediately after receipt.
  • The transcript of records must show at least 15 successfully passed ECTS.
  • If you pass less than 15 ECTS, you must submit a detailed, written explanation of why it was not possible to pass enough ECTS. This justification will then be taken into account when determining whether you need to repay the Erasmus+ grant or whether there were higher circumstances that prevented you from successfully fulfilling this criterion.

2. Transcript of Records from the Examinations Office:

  • After completing your studies abroad, the Learning Agreements and Transcript of Records from the partner university can be used to have your academic achievements recognised in your faculty. Please ask your faculty about the recognition procedure that applies to you and then register the recognised courses in the Central Examination Office in PAUL.
  • Once they have been recognised, please have the Examinations Office issue you with a transcript of records in which the academic achievements recognised from your stay abroad are marked. Please also upload this document directly to Mobility Online.

The Learning Agreement

The Learning Agreement is the contract between the home university, the host university and the student on the choice of courses and their recognition.

Important Notes

The courses taken at the partner university must have a scope of at least 24 ECTS per semester. This can also include non-subject-related courses (language courses, seminars on local culture, etc.).

After the mobility, you must be able to prove (via your ToR) that you have successfully completed at least 15 ECTS per semester at the partner university. If this is not the case, you may have to pay back your Erasmus+ grant.
