Development of functionally integrated PANELS as panel-shaped sandwich lightweight solutions for furniture and interior design applications for mobile and real estate

Overview

The increasing focus on resource conservation and sustainability requires a motivated, proactive approach in all areas of industrial production. The furniture industry has a special responsibility because of its large access to the most important renewable raw material, wood. Saving wood saves CO2 and sequesters it by reducing deforestation as the tree grows. The aim is to protect this important raw material by applying lightweight design principles and developing the necessary methods to reduce the resources required.

The InPeiro project will combine design aspects with manufacturing technology and numerical methods to design new types of furniture. The end result will be a functional demonstrator with prototypically validated production technology at TRL 6, enabling a market launch within a year. This will enable the project to make a rapid and important contribution to energy and resource efficiency and thus to sustainability.
