Second place for Paderborn University Cricket Team in Göttingen

The second DCB inter-university Cricket championship kicked off in Göttingen last weekend (July 16-17, 2016). Cricket teams from universities of seven cities including Bremerhaven, Darmstadt, Göttingen, Heidelberg, Oldenburg, Paderborn and Saarland met in preliminary round first (each of the 7 participating teams played each other). Standings after the completion of the preliminary round were:

(1) Darmstadt (6 won, 48 points)
(2) Heidelberg (4 won 2 lost, 32 points)
(3) Paderborn (3 won 3 lost, 24 points – Net Run rate +0.44)
(4) Bremerhaven (3 won 3 lost, 24 points – Net Run rate -5.34)
(5) Oldenburg (2 won 4 lost, 16 points – Net Run rate -9.74)
(6) Göttingen (2 won 4 lost, 16 points – Net Run rate -16.49)
(7) Saarland (1 won 5 lost, 8 points)

Playing with passion and commitment, Paderborn (at number 3 in preliminary round) beat the last year's defending champions, Heidelberg (at number 2) to meet Darmstadt in the finals. Unfortunately, the team could not repeat the same performance against Darmstadt in the finals and lost by a small margin. However, winning the runner's up trophy this year, the UPBCC (UPB Cricket Club) ascended from the third (last year) to the second position in the tournament. We wish them heartiest congratulations and good luck for next year.
