A conference to celebrate the fourth centenary of the birth of Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia (Princess Elisabeth von der Pfalz), later Princess Abess of Herford.
Keynote Speakers: Lilli Alanen, Sabrina Ebbersmeyer, Dominik Perler, Lisa Shapiro
Organizing Committee: Sabrina Ebbersmeyer, Sarah Hutton and Ruth Hagengruber.
Elisabeth of Bohemia (also known as Elisabeth of the Palatinate) was one of the most famous scholarly women of the 17th century, who is best known today for her correspondence with the René Descartes. But it is only recently that she has begun to be considered as a thinker in her own right. The conference aims to produce a new evaluation of Elisabeth by setting her in the context of the most Intellectual, religious, political and historical currents her time. The conference will be held jointly at Paderborn University and nearby Herford, where Elisabeth spent her last years as Princess Abbess.
