English

English, being a Germanic language, is the most widespread language in the world. There are numerous countries in which English is an official language. In other countries it functions as lingua franca and most international organisations use English is official language as well.
In total, a number ob approximately 340 million people are native to the English language. By the way: 38 % of EU-citizens claim to have sufficient knowledge of English to have a conversation.

Offered Courses and Placement

Every semester, English courses are offered to intermediate learners at various levels of proficiency (starting from A2/B1). All courses cover 4 SWS and usually take place twice a week.

Placement takes place by means of a mandatory placement test. During the first registration phase in PAUL, students can sign up for the test. It takes place at the Centre for Language Studies (check PAUL for rooms).

After the test, you can sign up for the course that fits your level of English in PAUL:

Content of the Classes and Textbooks
In the names of the courses, the level of the Common European Framework (CEF) is stated to give some guidance. To get an idea of the first 6 levels of proficiency of the CEF (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) you may check the global scale. More detailed information can be found in the self-assessment grid.

  • UNIcert® III:     subsequent to English C1.2 (L.ZfS.04013)
