Paderborn University considers the realization of equality as an important strategic goal. Equality is anchored as a cross-sectional task on all levels of Paderborn University. In order to work towards the actual implementation of equal rights for women and men in all status and employment groups and to reduce structural disadvantages, the following bodies have been established: The Equal Opportunities Commission (Gleichstellungskommission) advises and supports the University and the Central Equal Opportunities Officer in her equal opportunities policy tasks.
A steering group was set up in 2009 to implement gender mainstreaming and the Equal Opportunity Concept. The steering group includes the university management, all faculties and administration as well as equal opportunity actors.
For the implementation of equal opportunities at the universities, participation in supra-regional committees is of great importance, for example in the State Conference of Equal Opportunities Officers at Universities and University Clinics of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia - (Landeskonferenz der Gleichstellungsbeauftragten der Hochschulen und Universitätsklinika des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (LaKof)) and the Federal Conference of Women's and Equal Opportunities Officers at Universities (Bundeskonferenz der Frauen- und Gleichstellungsbeauftragten an Hochschulen (BuKoF)).
