Interdisciplinary Final Theses Workshop "Construction Kit" (BA, MA, Magister, Diplom, Staatsexamen)

The interdisciplinary workshop aims at supporting you while planning and writing your final theses. Particular attention will be paid to techniques that help you organize and enjoy your writing (process); stylistic aspects, however, will take a back seat to substantial steps of paper-writing. You will be given lots of opportunities to try out techniques in order to expand your repertoire of writing strategies. Reflecting upon one’s own writing is just as important and will be combined with an exchange of ideas amongst participants.

  • Unit I: writing strategies, writing (behavior) reflection, exercises against writer’s block, individual steps in the academic writing process
  • Unit II: narrowing down a topic and finding a research question
  • Unit III: reading specialist literature, running excerpts, using literature
  • Unit IV: revising and editing, providing mutual text feedback

Language: The workshop will be held in German.

Latest dates (workshop for all faculties):

  • Unit I Writing process: Thursday 04-01-2021, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Unit II Topic, aim & research question: Thursday 04-01-2021, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Unit III Reading & dealing with literature: Thursday 04-08-2021, 9 a.m. - 12. p.m.
  • Unit IV Textrevising: Friday 04-09-2021, 9 a.m. - 12. p.m.

When is the right time to attend the workshop?

  •  If you are still at the beginning, we recommend that you do not visit the topic blocks "Topic, aim & research question" and "The Writing Process" until you have a first idea of the thesis topic and are already familiar with it.
  • You should only visit the block "Reading & dealing with literature" if you have already selected literature.
  • Please do not visit the block "Textrevising" until you have already written a text on which revision steps can be tested.

As an alternative or beside, we also recommend individual advice to discuss a specific question about your writing project.
