Short-term childcare service – PUKi – Paderborn Uni Kids

Since summer semester 2007, Paderborn University students and employees with children have been able to benefit from a short-term childcare service with qualified staff. This childcare service is intended to free up parents to deal with important university-related matters, while knowing their children are in good hands. Children between the ages of one and twelve can be supervised and entertained in the facility by qualified staff, assisted by Education Studies students.

The service is intended to provide childcare at short notice/short-term childcare when the child’s usual childcare provider is unavailable or in special cases, such as during consultation hours, work meetings, seminars, examination group meetings, library visits and committee meetings.

Children are brought to the facility by their parent(s) or a caregiver. They are then registered and their parents’ telephone numbers are noted. Parents must remain on the university premises, must be reachable by telephone and must be able to pick up their child at short notice if the child so desires or for any other reason.

Important notice:

During the lecture-free period, the PUKi is closed from 06.02.2023 to 31.03.2023.

If you urgently need care during this time, please contact the Family Service Office. The earlier you notify us, the greater the likelihood that we will be able to offer you childcare. Of course, we also try to offer a solution in emergencies that occur at short notice.

The previous pandemic-related restrictions and special arrangements for short-term care at the University of Paderborn have officially been cancelled.

Nevertheless, all persons present on campus are strongly called upon to behave mindfully out of consideration for the community and to respect the need for protection of their counterparts in daily interaction, to observe the proven hygiene rules and to continue wearing a medical mask indoors. We also ask that you continue to regularly use the tests provided by the day care centres and child minders. Or, if tests are no longer provided, to visit a test centre if symptoms occur.

Childcare room

In a large, bright room in Building E (Room: E2.301), a beautiful playroom has been created where children can feel completely at ease.

Colourful walls, brightly coloured furniture and beautiful mats make for a warm and friendly atmosphere. While in the facility, children have a variety of options for play. On the construction mat, they can play with a wide range of construction toys,

while at the painting and craft table, they can let their creativity run free. Board games, puzzles and books for both small and older children are also available to enjoy.

Playing is hungry, and sometimes also tiring work! A table is therefore provided, at which the children can eat the food they have brought with them and quench their thirst. There is also a large corner sofa, on which they can cosy up to rest and relax or listen to stories.

Right next to the playroom is a separate toilet and a changing table specially for the PUKis.
