Early change of first name and gender entry

Paderborn University actively promotes equal opportunities and diversity in all areas of the university. It considers the heterogeneity of its university members as an opportunity and works continuously to enable participation for all people on campus as well as to create an environment in which the diverse needs of the entire university community are perceived.

Applications and enrolment at Paderborn University are also possible from the summer semester 2024 with the so-called dgti supplementary identification card. Further information can be obtained from the Registrar's Office.

In order to facilitate the realities of life for students on campus and also to enable them to develop their individual personalities in their everyday studies at Paderborn University, the gender and/or first name entry can also be changed digitally at an early stage. For this, neither an official change process according to the Transsexuals Act or the Personal Status Act must have already been initiated nor successfully completed.
A corresponding arrangement for employees is in progress.

Early change of first name and gender entry by self-declaration
Students matriculated at the University of Paderborn can digitally apply for a change of their gender entry as well as their first name by self-declaration using the form "STS Änderung des Geschlechts" (STS change of gender) on the pages of the campus management system PAUL.
For an early change of first name and/or gender entry, the application "STS Änderung des Geschlechts" (STS Change of Gender) including self-declaration (included in the digital application under the section "Mandatory declaration when applying with dgti supplementary identification card") as well as a copy of the dgti supplementary identification card must be submitted digitally on the pages of the campus management system PAUL under the section "Studium" - "Anträge" (Studies - Applications). The application will then be processed by the Registrar's Office.

A dgti supplementary identification card can be requested online from the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality e. V. (dgti) here (costs: €19.90). Further information on this supplementary document is also available here.

Should you have further questions regarding the procedure, please contact the responsible person at the Registrar's Office. The contact person for the area of gender diversity at Paderborn University is also the Diversity Officer, Laura Maring (laura.maring@uni-paderborn.de).

Information regarding the further use of the changed first name and/or gender entry within the university services is available on the IMT HelpWiki.
