Textographers program

Peer feedback in writing-affine teaching

With the Textographers Program, we want to further develop writing in the subjects and make teaching with an affinity for writing strong. Textographers are students trained by us to accompany a course in a subject they are studying themselves. On the one hand, they give feedback to the teachers from the students' perspective on the writing tasks they have set. On the other hand, they provide feedback to the students participating in the course on their texts, thus making the writing assignment requirements more transparent.

The goal is for students to become more familiar with and develop a deeper understanding of textual and writing practices in their respective subjects through subject-specific writing feedback. Writing is established and practiced as a means and goal of learning. The quality of writing increases and the writing process becomes fanned out and manageable through multiple smaller writing tasks and the feedback that occurs in between.

Our program is aimed at tandems of teachers and students from the same subject. In addition to training the textographers, we support the tandems in designing the writing tasks, the feedback concept, and the planned implementation in the seminar. A more detailed overview can be found in our general conditions for participation in the program. If the textographers cannot be financed by themselves, we offer the possibility to apply for a textographer grant until February 28, 2023.

Overview of the winter semester 2023/24:

All dates are mandatory for participation in the Textographers Program.

Contact: Andrea Karsten and Susan Holtfreter

New: Our textographer training is now newly certified within the framework of T-Cert according to the guidelines of Netzwerk Tutorienarbeit.

Participation in the Textographer Program is only possible for tandems. The framework conditions include attendance at all events of a program run and the conception of the course according to the principles of teaching with an affinity for writing. In addition, the activities of the textographers must be remunerated, e.g. through employment as a SHK or WHB in the subject, within the framework of a textographer grant or via an internship format.

As teachers, you will be ambassadors for the program in the seminar, communicating your goals for the assigned writing task(s) and explaining the role of textographers in the course.

Your responsibilities as part of the program:

  • Participate in program meetings
  • Conceptual integration of at least two writing assignments, allowing for feedback from textographers and revision of texts before submission deadline
  • Evaluation of the revised texts (grade or assessment)
  • Explanation of the program and the role and tasks of the textographers in the seminar.

Shared tasks with the textographers:

  • Make general arrangements
  • Discuss the writing tasks in advance
  • Clarify text requirements together
  • Develop how the feedback will be designed concretely and discuss this with the Kompetenzzentrum Schreiben.

For teachers, participation in the program is creditable with 4 AE in the university didactic certificate program "Professionelle Lehrkompetenz für die Hochschule" of the University of Paderborn, if you submit a written reflection in addition to your tasks in the program.

You are a source of inspiration for the teachers from the students' perspective, but you do not speak on behalf of the actual students in the seminar. For the seminar participants, you are a support at eye level, a back-up, a common thread finder, an interpreter...

Your tasks as a textographer:

  • Participation in program meetings
  • Participation in the training workshop
  • Giving feedback on texts of the seminar participants

Shared tasks with the teacher:

  • Make general arrangements
  • Discuss writing tasks in advance
  • Clarify text requirements together
  • Develop how the feedback is to be designed in concrete terms and discuss this with the Kompetenzzentrum Schreiben.

You as a teacher can, for example, register for the program together with a student assistant or approach interested students from higher semesters.

If you do not have a funding option for a textographer's position, simply apply for a textographer grant!

As an undergraduate student, you can become a textographer as part of an SHK position or a professional field internship (education students). If you are interested in the program as a student, please write to us. We will then discuss the further procedure personally.
