In some areas of the university there is a further examination registration period for the second examination section in the summer semester (teaching units in physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, media studies, and, in some cases, also sport and home economics). Registration for the above-mentioned second examination period is online in PAUL from September 4th (12 a.m.) to September 8th 2023 (11:59 p.m.).

At the University of Paderborn the registration for the exams will take place online in PAUL from October 23rd (12 p.m.) to November 23rd 2023 (11:59 p.m.).

Registration for examinations at the Faculty of Cultural Studies and at the Centre for Language Studies (ZfS) ends on January 10th 2024.

Please note that for all modules of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics (M.184.**** and M.IBS.****), registration for the exams automatically takes place when registering for the module (implicit registration).

FAQ exam registration

When do I register for the examinations in PAUL?

Registration and cancellation is possible at any time during the exam registration period; please do not wait until the end of the deadline to register or cancel your registration

 

How do I deregister from examinations in PAUL?

If necessary, you can deregister from examinations in PAUL for written and oral examinations. The cancellation period usually ends one week before the examination date. You can find the exact regulations on the withdrawal deadlines for examinations in your examination regulations. If it is not possible to deregister in PAUL because the examination has not yet been scheduled, please contact the administrator at Centre for exam registration or send an e-mail to paul@uni-paderborn.de

 

Why can't I find an exam under 'Exam registration'?

This is often due to the fact that the course associated with the examination was not registered for in the current semester. Here you have to select the semester in which the course was last attended (see 'Semester Administration').

 

How do I deregister from an examination in PAUL?

In PAUL, you can deregister from examinations and academic achievements in the "Studies" section. Click on the "Examination Administration" button to go to the "My Examinations" section in the left-hand menu bar. Here you will find a list of all examinations for which you have already registered. You can deregister by clicking on the "Deregister" button. If it is not possible to deregister in PAUL because the exam has not yet been scheduled, please contact the person in charge at Centre for exam registration or send an e-mail to paul@uni-paderborn.de

Cancellation of examinations is also possible after the end of the respective examination registration period in PAUL. The cancellation period ends - as a rule - one week before the examination date. You can find the exact regulations on the withdrawal deadlines for examinations in your examination regulations.

 

Why should I read my examination regulations before registering for an examination?

In PAUL, you may be able to register for exams that you do not need for your studies according to the examination regulations. Please therefore always check your examination regulations when registering for examinations.

What special regulations apply to examinations at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration?

For all courses offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, registration for modules automatically leads to registration for examinations (implicit registration). It is not necessary to register for an additional exam, but it may be necessary to cancel an exam.

Who has to register in PAUL for examinations and studies?

The University of Paderborn offers more than 200 degree programmes and within these programmes numerous other possible combinations - so it often depends on the individual case whether it is possible to register for an examination in PAUL.
 

In general:

If you can register for examinations in the examination administration, you must register for examinations in PAUL.
 

But: Students studying to become a teacher in the main study stage (Staatsexamen) still need certificates, as they have to present these certificates to the "Landesprüfungsamt für Erste Staatsprüfungen für Lehrämter an Schulen" (State Examination Office for First State Examinations for Teaching Offices at Schools) to register for the state examination. Registration for examinations in PAUL is therefore not necessary!

All students who have enrolled at the University of Paderborn in their first university semester starting in the winter semester 2011/12 must register in PAUL for all examinations and study achievements.

All students whose examination registrations and grades were imported to PAUL in the winter semester 2011/12 (Group 2) must register for examination and study achievements in PAUL from the summer semester 2012.

All students who were able to register for examinations and academic achievements in PAUL from the winter semester 2011/12 onwards must continue to register for examinations and academic achievements in PAUL.

For all courses in economics, registration for exams takes place during module registration.

For the Bachelor and Master programmes of the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Natural Sciences and Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, registration for exams and academic achievements is done entirely via PAUL

In all courses of study in mechanical engineering, registration takes place via PAUL.

In all degree programmes in which registration for examinations was previously required, you must continue to register for examinations - usually in PAUL.
