The introduction of bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes at Paderborn University has substantially increased the number of examinations and the attendant organisational effort.
Student numbers have risen considerably since the winter semester 2009/2009. The abolition of national service in 2011 saw a double year group completing secondary school in 2013, leading to another increase in student numbers.
Existing IT systems were severely limited in their capacity to manage the new degree courses. They were no longer suitable at all for the examination administration for the new bachelor’s/master’s teacher training programmes that began in the winter semester 2011/12.
In the face of these challenges, Paderborn University decided to intoduce a Campus Management Solution.
A Europe-wide call for tender led to the decision at the end of 2007 to adopt Datenlotsen Informationssysteme GmbH, Hamburg’s Campus.net solution. The same company’s solution for the application process had already successfully been in use at Paderborn University since the winter semester 2007
The requirements of the different examination regulations can be represented clearly in PAUL for both students and members of teaching staff.
