Get to know fields of study

Studying at Paderborn University is as individual as our students themselves. We offer a wide range of modern degree programmes. Our degree programmes are interdisciplinary and allow students to explore a wide range of perspectives and set their own specialisations. There are numerous opportunities to combine subject areas according to your own ideas. This gives students the freedom to organise their studies in a way that best suits their individual needs and interests.

Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

The degree programmes in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering combine technology with mathematics and the natural sciences. They are primarily concerned with solving technical problems and developing future-oriented technologies.

Humanities and social sciences

The Humanities and Social Sciences degree programmes use scientific concepts and theories from various disciplines to investigate intellectual, cultural and social phenomena. Questions are reflected upon and critically analysed from all sides.

Health and sport

Exercise and a healthy diet are key prerequisites for coping with the demands of the various phases of learning, work and life over the entire life course.

Computer science and maths

Logical thinking and problem solving play an important role in the Computer Science and Mathematics degree programme.

Art, media, music, textiles

All degree programmes in this field of study focus not only on creativity, but also on the academic study of the historical, aesthetic and theoretical aspects of these subject areas.

Teaching profession

The teaching degree programme covers several types of schools as well as various teaching subjects that can be studied as part of a teaching degree programme.

Natural sciences

The natural sciences observe, describe and investigate the relationships between natural laws. Hypotheses, models and theories are developed from the data obtained in this way. The prerequisites are logical thinking skills and a love of exploring and investigating.

Language, literature, culture

The Language, Literature, Culture degree programme is all about the spoken and written word - both in German and in other languages.

Economics

In economics, you will learn how to think and act economically within various departments.

Talente fördern

Die Universität Paderborn engagiert sich aktiv für die Talentförderung junger Menschen. Bereits während der Schulzeit und lange, bevor die Entscheidung für eine berufliche oder akademische Ausbildung getroffen wird, begleiten wir Schüler*innen auf ihrem Lebensweg.

Studieren vor dem Abi

Unser Programm "Studieren vor dem Abi" richtet sich an besonders begabte Schüler*innen (vorrangig der Jahrgangsstufen 9 bis 13), die sich über den Schulstoff hinaus mit einem Wissenschaftsgebiet beschäftigen möchten.

Schülerstipendienprogramm NRWTalente – Region OWL

Das Schülerstipendienprogramm fördert leistungsorientierte Schüler*innen ab der 8. Klasse aller Schulformen aus der Region OWL bei ihrer Berufs- und Studienwahlorientierung. Wir unterstützen durch persönliche Beratung, ein umfangreiches Bildungsprogramm und vielfältige Sachleistungen.

Talentscouting

Die Talentscouts der Hochschulen in Ostwestfalen-Lippe beraten und begleiten talentierte, motivierte und im Lebenskontext leistungsorientierte Schüler*innen der Sekundarstufe II, die als erste in ihrer Familie ein Studium in Betracht ziehen.

Die Talentscouts der Hochschulen in Ostwestfalen-Lippe beraten und begleiten talentierte, motivierte und im Lebenskontext leistungsorientierte Schüler*innen der Sekundarstufe II, die als erste in ihrer Familie ein Studium in Betracht ziehen.

NRW-Technikum

Das Projekt richtet sich an junge Frauen* mit (Fach-)Abitur, die nach der Schule innerhalb des 6-monatigen Programms aus Schnupperstudium und Unternehmenspraktikum ausprobieren können, ob MINT tatsächlich ihren Fähigkeiten und Vorlieben entspricht.

Schülerpraktika Chemie

Beim Schülerpraktikum Chemie haben leistungsmotivierte Schüler*innen die Möglichkeit einen expliziten Einblick in das Chemiestudium zu geben. Neben Laborversuchen können Schüler*innen an aktuellen Forschungen mitwirken und sich mit Chemiestudierenden austauschen.

SommerCamp Physik

Beim SommerCamp Physik können Schüler*innen vier Tage lang einen Einblick in das Studium Physik sowie die Forschung und die Berufsaussichten nach einem Physikstudium werfen. Das SommerCamp findet immer zu Beginn der Sommerferien in NRW statt, ist aber offen für Teilnehmende aus ganz Deutschland.

Förderpreis der Wirtschaft

Der Förderpreis der Wirtschaft prämiert besondere schulische Leistungen in den naturwissenschaftlichen Fächern Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften (Biologie, Chemie, Physik) sowie den Technikfächern: Die beste Schülerin und der beste Schüler einer Klasse der 8. und 9. Jahrgangsstufe werden ausgezeichnet.

Study without A-levels

At Paderborn University, we offer many opportunities to start a degree programme. In addition to the general higher education entrance qualification, prospective students can also enrol in degree programmes with a vocational qualification or the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, taking into account the admission requirements. Prospective students who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification abroad and would like to study with us are also very welcome. If none of these requirements are met, there is the option of attending individual courses as a guest student.

Continuing your studies after completing your Bachelor's degree

Regardless of whether you have obtained your Bachelor's degree at Paderborn University or at another university, Paderborn University offers you a wide range of Master's degree programmes. Students who have obtained their Bachelor's degree abroad can also take up a Master's programme with us.

We support prospective students in their orientation and choice of degree programme. We also provide advice on all questions relating to studying and starting a degree programme.

We support prospective students who do not have a German university entrance qualification in the application process at Paderborn University.

We provide information and advice on teacher training programmes, including questions on admission requirements and planning your studies and examinations.

We enable prospective students with disabilities to gain as comprehensive a picture as possible of their future place of study, its structural framework conditions and support options before enrolment.
