Summary

Tilo Hähnel studied musicology, art history, and psychology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin, where he graduated with a thesis in the field of systematic musicology (Auf der Suche nach der inneren Uhr, Osnabrück 2008). After an editorial traineeship, he worked on historically informed performance practice and computer-aided expressive interpretations of instrumental works by Georg Philipp Telemann at the Faculty of Computer Science at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

Since completing his doctorate at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg in 2012 (Baroque performance, Osnabrück 2013), Hähnel has focused on voice, interpretation, and popular music. He worked as a lecturer and researcher at the Institute of Musicology Weimar-Jena (Stimme, Kultur, Identität, Bielefeldt 2015), the Institute of Music of Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, and the Musicology Seminar Detmold/Paderborn (Wie Körper Schule macht, Munich 2021). At the latter, he substituted a professorship in musicology in 2019 and 2020. In 2022, he completed his habilitation and received the venia legendi at University of Paderborn, where he currently holds the title of Privatdozent.
