Allow me to introduce you to the GSANS - the Paderborn Graduate School on Applied Network Science. Maybe you ask yourself what the GSANS is all about. To give an answer, let me ask you another question: What do the peer-to-peer networks in the internet, new functional nanoparticles and the investment behavior of international companies have in common? Not much, you might think. In the GSANS we believe that the opposite is true. For us, these are all examples of real-world problems with a network structure lurking in the background. In the GSANS, our aim is to learn to master these and many more problems by
analyzing, controlling and optimizing this network structure.
Once you start looking for it, you'll find that networks are truly ubiquitous in science and technology, and beyond. It is for this reason that for the GSANS we have brought together a truly interdisciplinary faculty that aims to implement an ambitious research program. It is complemented by a flexible and highly individualized qualification strategy designed to offer every PhD student the opportunities to complete his or her PhD project with excellent results and to lay the foundations for a successful subsequent career - whatever the personal goals may be.
