Since November 2015, the University of Paderborn has been offering German language courses for asylum seekers on CEFR level A1 and A2. These Welcome Courses are free of charge and designed especially for asylum seekers in the district of Paderborn, whose asylum procedure is still running and who already at this point wish to engage themselves actively in the university environment because they are interested in future studies. The next intake will start in January 2018. The courses are funded by the refugee program "Integra" (DAAD/BMBF).
You can submit your application for the coming intake mondays and tuesdays, 14.30 - 16.00 h, in room ME 0 226 (ground floor of the Mensa building). The application should include a completed application form and your educational documents and their translations into German or English. Please make sure to include your up-to-date and legible email address, because invitations will be sent by email.
Requirements for application: You are citizen of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Eritrea or Somalia and your educational documents prove that you are qualified to study at a German university. Your university entrance qualification will be assessed by the International Office after the application has been submitted. For a first orientation if you are qualified or not, the webseite Anabin provides country specific information (in German language only).
Please note: If you already have more profound German language skills, it is possbile to apply for our regular preparatory German language courses (DSH courses). Detailled information is available on our respective website. Under certain conditions and provided that the above mentioned requirements are fulfilled, financial help regarding the DSH course fees might be possible through the refugee program "NRWege ins Studium" (DAAD/MKW). If you are interested, please include a copy of your residence document in your application for the DSH course.
Counselling: For more information, you are welcome to visit us during our office hours.
Counselling in Arabic language: In addition to our regular office hours, the International Office offers an individual counselling (also) in Arabic language for refugees, but also for further applicants.

Place: Room ME 0 226 (Mensa building, behind the AOK and TKK health insurance offices)
An appointment is not required.
