Assistance during your stay

We would like that your stay in Paderborn be rewarding and a benefit for you in every aspect! Part of this is that you can successfully study, improve your German knowledge, and get to know Germany and its culture. We hope that you will cultivate many friendships with German and international students and can develop important intercultural competencies.

Orientation program

The orientation program takes place before and during the semester and includes the following:

Official reception and introduction event during which the first steps in Paderborn and administrative questions will be explained. This occurs on the same day of the placement test for the crash course participants. The students who do not take the crash course and arrive later will be welcomed directly in the International Office and provided with the most important information.

  • Tour through the university and its facilities
  • Information presentation “What to expect in Germany?”
  • City tour with the assistance of Eurobiz
  • Excursions, day trips, and country evenings organized by Eurobiz
  • And much more!

Eurobiz

The Paderborn student group Eurobiz works on the orientation program together with the International Office and organizes most excursions. Many of the Eurobiz members are volunteers who have studied abroad themselves or plan to stay abroad. They very much enjoy assisting the exchange students in Paderborn and organizing community undertakings. Eurobiz offers all of the following:

  • Sporting events (soccer, volleyball, etc.), parties, and other free time activities (bbqs, etc.)
  • Organization of excursions and activities together with the International Office.
    • Tip: After your arrival, sign up for the Eurobiz email list so that you can be informed about their activities in a timely manner.
  • The first introduction meeting with all exchange students and buddies to begin the semester programs
  • Weekly “Stammtisch” with exchange students and other Eurobiz members

Buddy program

In order to facilitate your arrival and first steps in Paderborn, we will place you (if desired) with a German Buddy; that is, a Paderborn student that can help you after your arrival with the first steps at the university and eventually with local authorities. He or she will have already received information about you before your arrival, so that your pick-up from the train station or airport can be planned. The Buddies will also accompany you to all necessary administrative steps like the opening of a bank account, transferring payment for a semester ticket, registering at the Residence Office, registering at the Notebook Café, etc. Additionally, the Buddies are happy to help with everyday questions such as, where is the best place to buy groceries? Where is the bus stop? And how does trash separation work?

Many of the Buddies have already studies abroad themselves, maybe even in your country, and know the situation of being in a foreign country and can understand your position well. As a rule they speak English, and sometimes even your mother language.

Often your Buddy-ship forms into a year-long friendship, but in any case you will have already met a Paderborn student.
