Paderborn University has an outstanding track record in fruitful cooperation with industry and in technology transfer from original idea to final spin-off.
This success is based on an initative of the computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf. In 1980, he donated 50 million deutschmark to Paderborn University to promote applied research at the intersection between computer science and engineering. Paderborn University still acts according to this philosophy, which was visionary and unique for its time. As a result, the university has built a strong network with regional based and global operating companies. To this date, more than 200 successful start-ups have emerged from Paderborn University and created over 8,500 jobs, 82% of which are in the region Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
Innovative research - for and with industry - is taking place within our Joint Ventures. Extraordinary, and therefore to be distinguished is the collaboration with the technology network Intelligent Technical Systems (it's OWL) and with the local Fraunhofer institutions.
